GIRAFFE OMNIBED CARESTATION, Alice Springs Hospital, Neonatal Unit, NT
$77,140.00
Alice Springs Hospital is the second largest hospital in the Territory and cares for premature babies in its neonatal unit. Incubators provide the warmth and protection necessary for the optimal growth of sick preterm infants. This Omnibed can minimise handling of tiny babies during care and procedures because care teams can work in and around the baby easily while maintaining heat to keep the baby warm. It also allows the family to keep close contact with the baby. In ‘open mode,’ the overhead heater keeps the baby warm. In ‘closed mode,’ the rotating mattress, in-bed scales and x-ray tray prevent the baby from being repositioned to perform life-saving procedures. The Giraffe OmniBed is a combination system that brings together the best features of a traditional incubator and a radiant warmer to eliminate the stress of transferring critically ill infants from bed to bed. This bed will be used to provide care for the smallest and sickest newborn babies and will reduce transfers to the Intensive Care Unit as the baby can be safely cared for and isolated if required due to infection.
