The Atom Incubator is a lifesaving piece of equipment that helps treating teams stabilising a critically ill infant. The donation of this incubator will allow the clinicians at North West Regional Hospital to stabilise newborn and unwell babies, maintain their temperature, monitor vital signs and provide oxygen therapy as required.
The equipment will replace very old/outdated equipment that was transferred with the service when it was taken over in December 2023. It will ensure that all neonates in our Grade 4 SCN receive the best care possible when receiving necessary treatments. It will be used in our Grade 4 SCN for treatment of neonates greater than 34 weeks and for stabilisation of neonates less than 34 weeks or acuity unwell term neonates prior to tranasfer to our Tertiary hospital 4 hours away.
As a new service that had previously been run by a Private Hospital we were allocated a budget for new equipment but unfortunately more equipment than was initially identified has required replacement as majority of the existing equipment is extremely old and malfunctional and we have now exceeded our allocated budget with vital equipment such as the Isolettes still yet to be purchased.
