The Astodia Diaphanoscope assists medical staff to find veins in young patients. It illuminates small blood vessels and other structures filled with air or liquid. This equipment helps care teams find veins to quickly and accurately draw blood or place cannulas (a tube that can be inserted into the body) to administer vital medicines to babies and children. Importantly there is reduced pain and discomfort for little patients as the Astodia means the cannula can be placed with fewer attempts. It is particularly useful on younger children, those with darker skin, or when the veins are not visible due to dehydration.
